Human/Ordinary is an independent production by Sam Loy and features non-fiction stories exploring what it means to be human. Here at Human/Ordinary, I believe that all people are equal in our normalcy and that each of us have extraordinary stories to tell.
I hope to share some of these stories with you.

I began Human/Ordinary after I became a dad and realised I wasn’t living a life to my true self. Despite always considering myself a creative person, I had no creative outlet and was working a job without passion.
I have an interest in people, cultures, why we do what we do, why we think what we think, and documentary storytelling.

I love talking to people about their passions - whether it’s street art, tattooing, human rights or how to fight climate change. It’s a privilege to be invited in to hear their stories, and I hope that by sharing their voices I’m also sharing what makes us all human.
Currently I’m a producer at Kinderling Kids Radio and Audiocraft. They say you should never work with kids or animals, but I’ve definitely got some awesome tape from furry creatures and creative kids (they really do say the most hilarious things!)

In a former life, I worked as a research scientist and a lecturer. But podcasts were always bubbling at the back of my mind as a way to share my interests in an intimate way, and start grown-up conversations about ethics and our place in the natural world.
I have a day job making the award-winning podcast Pomegranate Health for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. I also used to write for a couple of medical rags and was a regular panelist on 2SER Radio’s Diffusion Science.

I love podcasting and am super excited to be working with Human/Ordinary. I’m also an actor, and have travelled around the world with theatre shows, as well as doing a lot of extremely silly outdoor Shakespeare with the Melbourne Shakespeare Company.
I do some storytelling and won the Inaugural Melbourne Moth Grand Slam a couple of years ago. No, that’s not a wrestling thing. And I hosted a late-night talk show on Community TV called Mainland Tonight. You can still watch the shows on Facebook if you’re interested. I’m basically like Stephen Colbert, but (and this is important), nothing at all like Stephen Colbert.
